Dev Lge: Raith Rovers 2 – 0 Stirling Albion
Match Report
Starks Park, 29th November 2016
The young were Rovers nearly caught out from the whistle when Stirling’s Dylan Nguene Bikey cut in on the left and rattled the base of the near post, this was the first of three efforts to hit the woodwork for the chap on the evening.
Ten minutes in and Rovers Trialist keeper, Josh McDonald and Stirling’s Alex Docherty all went for the ball, only the ball coming out on top, Rovers physio attended all three in a short stoppage, remarkably they all saw out the game.
The game resumed with Yaw Osei, playing the man up top with a couple of one on ones with keeper Cammy Binnie, shooting wide with the first and Binnie winning the second.
On the half hour Docherty saw his shot from inside the area deflected for a corner from which, that man Bikey had his second misfortune, hitting the post from 5 yards with an overhead kick. Two minutes later he looked on in frustration as a goal bound shot from the left corner of the 6-yard box took a slight deflection and come off the back post.
Rovers, who had been on the back foot for a period, started to get back in the game, Yaw rounding the stranded Binnie flicked the ball into Watson who was denied at the edge of the six-yard box.
Yaw almost deposed of the ball at the edge of the area by a trip, recovered to beat three defenders and fired the ball into the arms of Binnie, the throw out was recovered by Stevenson who shot over the bar from 25 yards.
With five minutes left in the half the ball was kicked out to David Verlaque near the halfway line, Thorsen read the pass perfectly and skinned the right back and laid the ball off to Osei who made no mistake and buried the ball in the net from 8 yards 1-0
The last effort of the half was a long range shot from Stevenson which was deflected for a corner Half time 1-0
Nine minutes into the second half a great cross from Osei eluded Berry but fell to Watson but his scrambled shot was deflected for a corner. The resultant corner fell to Watson, was tapped down to McDonald, his shot coming back to Watson who flicked the ball in to McKay who rifled the ball into the net from 3 yards out 2-0
Stirling by no means rolled over, but the Rovers seemed to have the better chances in the rest of the game, Thorsen dribbling past two defenders and laying off to Watson who was denied by Binnie, then Yaw chipping the ball in for Berry who forced Binnie into a fantastic reaction save.
Berry and Stevenson had further chances to extend the lead but the next phase of play saw Stirling up the pace, first Bikey forced a near post save from the Rovers trialist, then Docherty shooting across the face of goal which Valentine cleared at the back post and lastly McLaren shooting just past the post from 15 yards.
