Livi strike late at Almondvale Astro

Match Report

Almondvale Astro, 21st November 2016

The young Rovers started briskly on a freezing cold evening in the shadows of the Macarena, with the first meaningful attack, Ryan Stevenson on the left of the area hit the top of the opposite post with a rasper of a shot.

Livingston’s reply was swift, ex-Rover Dale Carrick broke through and beat our trialist keeper from 10 yards out 1-0

The lads didn’t let this phase them as minutes later, Stevenson spotted Thorsen in the box, his pass was flicked on by the Dane to Osei, who despite yells for offside, stuck to his task and slotted home from six yards 1-1

The rest of the half saw both teams passing the ball up the wings and through the middle but neither side was for giving an inch, this and deteriorating conditions saw first Josh MacDonald requiring treatment from the physio, then Trialist F having to go off to be replaced by Trialist M.

Just before half time, Livingston Right Back Currie neatly overlapped and level with the six-yard line outside the box fired the ball past our stranded keeper into the far side of the net 2-1 Half time.

The opening ten minutes of the second half saw the sides trade possession and shots on goal, firstly Euan Valentine had a tame shot from the edge of the area covered by the keeper, then Carrick going wide with a glancing header, not to be outdone, at the other end, Ryan Stevenson smacked a low shot from 18 yards, into the net 2-2

Yaw Osei was not content to stand by and had several attempts at scoring, an inch perfect cross from Valentine was deflected by Watt as Yaw pulled the trigger, the feat was repeated by Watt, this time Stevenson supplied the pass.

With 15 minutes left on the clock Osei hit a rocket from the left of the area which the keeper did well to tip the ball onto the bar and out for a corner.

The introduction of James Collins saw him and Valentine run the Livingston defence ragged, this paying off on 85 minutes when both combined on the left and Valentine’s cross was met by the rising Thorsen who at apogee headed home at the back post 2-3

The Rovers just had to see out the game to leave with a deserved three points, but slack defending from an injury time corner saw Watt score with a free header at the back post 3-3 Full time.
