Development League East

Berwick Rangers U20’s 1 – 3 Raith Rovers U20’s

                               Jones 73’                             Davidson 74’

                                                                                         McKay 88’

                                                                              Osei 89’

Rovers starting line-up included Kevin McHattie and Ian Davidson who played at LB and CM respectively.

The visitors started the game briskly with McHattie and Berry pushing down the left the former supplying Thorsen who headed wide and the latter shooting high over the bar from distance.

The hosts absorbed the early pressure until the fifteenth minute when the Rovers turned on the passing style, Watson began the move with a diagonal ball to Stevenson which was side footed to Berry who cleverly found Watson, his shot from 10 yards grazed the post and rippled the side netting.

Berwick recovered and took the game to the Rovers, enjoying attempts on goal from Bauld and Stephen Scott, both picked out by Brian who gets better by the game.

Stand outs for Berwick were Donkor who jousted with Court all evening and very rarely let him onto through balls which were fed to him, at the other end Watt muscled his way into the game and harried the defence but came up against a resolute Davidson on more than one occasion.

The second half saw Berwick contain Rovers for the most part and had notable shots on goal from Watt, Cook and Porteous with the pick of the bunch being a shot from Stephen Scott which looped onto the top of the net from distance.

After a spell of pressure Berwick passed the ball across Rovers midfield where Sam Jones took the ball on the full and hit an amazing dipping shot over Brian and just under the bar 1-0

From the restart Rovers failed to let their heads go down and pushed for the equaliser, this came quicker than the travelling support thought when Ian Davidson in the middle of the box, converted Stevenson’s corner with a rocket header 1-1

The game having calmed down looked like finishing even, Thorsen was replaced by Dall and play saw Rovers win a corner. Stevenson whipped in a pinpoint cross and David McKay headed past the outstretched hands of Allan at the back post 1-2

Berwick seamed despondent at the loss of a late goal and were caught out at the restart when Yaw Osei went on a twenty yard run on the right and slotted the ball under the out rushing Allan and into the net 1-3

Referee Mr Stuart played one minute of added time and called a halt to proceedings, Rovers coming from behind in style, from a game which up to the host’s goal had stalemate written on it.

We return to the same venue next Monday with the league title in sight, however Berwick and Forfar still have an interest on first place but Rovers are in poll position with two games left to play.
