Ben Williamson Sign For Raith Rovers
Raith Rovers are delighted to announce the signing of Ben Williamson; a loan arrangement until the end of the season has been agreed and his formal registration as a Rovers player has been approved by the football authorities.
A native of Blairhall, Fife (Ben is a former Queen Anne HS pupil) – Williamson is a product of the Rangers Academy (he signed a new 2-year contract with the Glasgow giants in July 2021) and will be at the Rovers until the end of the current season. Ben returned to the Ibrox club early from a season – long loan at SPFL Premiership side Livingston earlier this week.
The 20-year-old central midfielder has been called up to several Scotland Under 21 squads in 2021 and is no stranger to the SPFL Championship, having impressed on loan at Arbroath last season – playing 18 times and scoring 1 goal for the Red Lichties.
Commenting on the clubs’ latest acquisition, Manager John McGlynn said “I would like to thank Billy Kirkwood and Craig Mulholland of Rangers FC for the part they have played in enabling Ben to join the Rovers until the end of the season.
It’s a major coup for our club to have a current Scotland Under 21 internationalist in our ranks – Ben is a very committed central midfield player who has great energy, he’s really tenacious, a winner and will add real bite to the midfield.
With Dylan Tait moving on to Hibs, and with Brad Spencer still a way off match fitness after his injury we felt it was important to add that type of player to the team. Along with Sam Stanton I now believe we have the players in that department of the team to give us the boost we need to keep our promotional push going.
I’d like to take this opportunity to formally welcome Ben to the Rovers – hopefully the fans will be back in Stark’s Park soon and they can also welcome the new boys to the club.”
Ben caught up with RaithTV to talk about his loan move after training earlier this week:
