Last Saturday at Stark’s Park saw the eagerly awaited launch of the special commemorative away shirt, marking the centenary of the formation of McCrae’s Battalion and Raith Rovers FC’s links to it.

Seven Raith players – James H. Logan, George McLay, Willie Porter, Willie Lavery, Jimmy Todd, Jimmy Scott and Jock Rattray – joined the battalion alongside players from Heart of Midlothian and several other clubs.

The battalion, the 16th Royal Scots, took part in actions including the Battle of the Somme, and the push for Passchendale. Three of our players – Todd, Scott and McLay – paid the ultimate sacrifice.

The shirt, to be used in season 2014-15, was launched at a special media event which was attended by the Rt Hon Gordon Brown MP and Jack Alexander from the McCrae’s Battalion Trust, alongside Janice Todd and Alvin Scott – the niece of Jimmy Todd and the grandson of Jimmy Scott respectively. Also in attendance were representatives from D&G Autocare who have agreed to sponsor the back of the jerseys for two seasons.

David Hunter, MD of D&G Autocare said “We are delighted to show our support for our local club. We pride ourselves on being ‘the friendly garage’ and Raith Rovers’ reputation as a friendly club makes this partnership an exciting one”

Three Raith players – Jason Thomson, Kevin Moon and Dougie Hill – donned the new shirt for a photoshoot.

We are delighted that the new shirt has caught the imagination of not just Raith Rovers supporters, but also the wider footballing public as we seek to honour not just Raith Rovers players, but all those who served in McCrae’s Battalion, and indeed all those who have served in our Armed Forces in conflicts since. In a departure from the norm, there is no sponsor logo across the chest – only the one word “Remember”.

You can pick up your own shirt from Stark’s Park, ACA Sports or online at www.ticketwolf.co.uk. Sizes available range from 24-26, 26-28, 30-32, 32-34 (£34 each) and S,M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL £40 (short sleeves) £43 (long sleeves).
