Alex Kinninmonth Obituary
It is with great sadness that the Club have learned of the passing of former Raith Rovers coach Alex Kinninmonth, at the age of 82.
Alex was born in Methil on the 6th of September, 1941. He played for St Andrews Swifts juvenile side before moving to Blairgowrie Juniors, and from there was signed by Dundee FC in 1964. He made 167 competitive appearances, scoring 25 goals. He famously played in the Dundee team that made their way to the Semi-Final of the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup where they narrowly lost to Leeds United in season 1967/68.
Three years later, Alex and Dundee were back in Europe in the newly revamped UEFA Cup and Alex scored in the tie vs Cologne.
In 1972, Alex moved to play for Dunfermline Athletic and after four years he moved to Forfar Athletic.
Gordon Wallace brought his ex-Dundee team mate to Stark’s Park as a First Team Coach when he took over as Raith Rovers manager. Alex resigned after Gordon left to join Dundee United, but in October 1983 returned as the Reserve Team Coach. He would serve Raith Rovers with distinction for several seasons, working under Bobby Wilson, Frank Connor and finally Jimmy Nicholl.
While coaching the youngsters that came through the youth system at Raith Rovers, Alex would occasionally also play alongside them for Raith Rovers Reserves. Many of the great young Raith Rovers players that broke through into the first team and went on to have great careers benefitted from the coaching of Alex Kinninmonth.
Alex was married to Ella and they have three children Sandy, Steven and Kay.
The thoughts of everyone at Raith Rovers go to his family and friends at this sad time.
