Match Preview
After exiting the Scottish Cup narrowly to Aberdeen last weekend, Raith Rovers return to league duty this Saturday, as Queen’s Pak visit Stark’s Park.
The Spiders were also eliminated from the cup last time out, after losing on penalties to League Two Stranraer on Tuesday evening.
However, the Blues were cited on Wednesday as fielding an illegible player, and while Chris Aitken’s side intend to appeal, there’s a chance Queen’s Park are reinstated into the competition when the hearing takes place next week.
The Lesser Hampden side currently sit ninth in the Championship table, two points ahead of Ross County and two points behind Airdrie.
However, Sean Crighton’s men have played fewer games than anyone else in the division and have a game in hand over the Staggies and three over Airdrie.
This is the third meeting of the sides this season, and it’ll be four in quick succession when they face off again in the KDM Evolution Trophy quarter-final on Tuesday evening in Glasgow.
Rovers have yet to register a win in this fixture so far this season, with the first meeting the opening league game of the season back in August.
An early goal from Michael Ruth handed Queen’s the initiative, although a late Dylan Easton penalty earned Rovers a share of the points.
The return fixture at Lesser Hampden took place in November, when a Josh Fowler double secured a 2-1 win for the home side, with Darragh O’Connor on the scoresheet for the visitors.
Despite results this season, Rovers do have a good recent record in this match up, with four wins and three draws from the last 10 meetings.
Saturday’s match referee will be Sean Murdoch.
Head-To-Head Record:
Raith Rovers wins: 55
Queen’s Park wins: 38
Draws: 29
