We are delighted to announce the signing of striker William Akio, who joins The Rovers on loan for the rest of season 2022-23 from Ross County Football Club.

A 24 year old striker, William was born in Nairobi, Kenya to South Sudanese parents and emigrated to Calgary, Canada where he played college football; first for the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology before moving to the United States to study at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

William also played for Calgary Foothills in USL League Two from 2017 to 2019 where he scored regularly.

Akio signed his first professional contract with Canadian Premier League side Valour FC in season 2021-22, making 41 appearances that season and scoring 10 goals, before moving to Scotland to sign for SPFL Premiership side Ross County at the start of this season.

William made his debut for The Staggies in Fife – against East Fife in a League Cup fixture – and he is looking  forward to continuing his career development in Kirkcaldy and adding to his goals tally.

Approval for William’s loan at Stark’s Park was received less than an hour ago, so he is available for selection in today’s matchday squad versus Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Welcome Aboard William!
