Scott Agnew joins as Ian Murray’s Assistant

Raith Rovers are today delighted to confirm the arrival of Scott Agnew as our new Assistant Manager. 

The 34-year-old’s arrival completes the set-up of Ian Murray’s backroom staff as he makes the move to bring his No.2 from North Lanarkshire to Fife. 

‘Aggy’ as he is more affectionately known, has worked with Ian Murray on and off over the last ten years as both a player at Dumbarton, St Mirren and most recently as a No.2 at Airdrieonians. 

The midfielder is well known to the Stark’s Park terraces after proving to be a thorn in the side of many a Rovers side over the years featuring for East Fife, Ayr United, Dumbarton and St Mirren. 

The move will see the midfielder hang up his boots as he looks set to make the transition from the middle of the park to the dugout after helping Murray guide their Airdrie side to a second placed finish in League One which saw the side go on a 23-game unbeaten run in that time before being beaten at the final hurdle by Queens Park. 

The announcement sees the coaching team completed before the players report back for Pre-Season testing on 11th June.

Ian Murray spoke to RaithRovers.net on his No.2’s arrival: 

“It’s good to get Aggy in through the door. 

“He’s deserved his break over the Summer and he’s delighted to be here. 

“We’ll get a good look around the place and a good catch-up over the next few days to see how things will be going forward. 

“Most importantly, Aggy was a vital part of what we achieved at Airdrie last season, he was important for myself and he’ll be important for the players as well. 

“I’m sure they’ll love working with him. 

“I’ve been lucky enough to work with Scott for the last ten years or so on and off. 

“I had him at Dumbarton and took him to St Mirren with me, I even tried signing him a few times before he came into Airdrie but it just didn’t happen for whatever reason. 

“I’m delighted that we can get to work together again.”
