Raith Rovers are delighted to announce that midfielder Ross Matthews has agreed terms on an extension to his Rovers contract.
Ross (who turned 25 last month) would have been out of contract at the end of this season, but after a series of excellent displays in the heart of the Rovers midfield over the last season and a half, the management team of John McGlynn and Paul Smith have acted swiftly to tie one of the clubs longest – serving player down until the ens of season 2023-24.
Rovers manager John McGlynn spoke exclusively to raithrovers.net and said “Not only are we building for the moment, but also for the future. We see Ross signing as a significant step forward – Ross has continued to improve in the last two years and we see him as a player who can continue to improve and take us to the next level. He has shown his commitment to the club and by signing until the summer of 2024, I’m delighted to be working with Ross over this period”.
Ross first signed for the Rovers in 2013 during Grant Murray’s time as manager, having come through the age groups of the Raith Rovers Youth Academy, and since then has racked up 209 appearances (165 of them starts), scoring 15 goals.
“Rossco” has played for 5 Rovers managers, and now sits at number 65 in the list of all-time appearances for the club.
