Booth to the Squad

Thursday June 20th 2013

Manager Grant Murray has moved to further strengthen the squad for the upcoming campaign by securing the services of Hibernian left back / midfielder Callum Booth on a season long loan.

The 22 year old has been on Hibs’ books since the age of 10 and showed sufficient potential to have been awarded a 5 year contract by the Easter Road side back in 2010. Callum, capped at both Under 19 and Under 21 levels, has also gained valuable first team experience in loan periods with Arbroath, Brechin and Livingston.

Callum will join his new team mates for the start of pre season training on Saturday, and no doubt will be looking forward to facing his parent club in next month’s pre season friendly (Fri 12th July).

Following promotion the previous season Rovers took on Celtic at Parkhead drawing the match 2-2 in front of a crowd of 32000. Rovers fielded two ex-Celts in Joe McLaughlin and Andy Young. Rovers twice came from behind in the game with Willie Penman netting on each occasion. The game is most notable for an injury to Willie Penman. Rovers trainer Willie Hunter raced onto the park to administer smelling salts but the semi-conscious Penman took a deep drink of the salts. Penman was taken away to the dressing room where he was violently sick but insisted on returning to the action!
