Eddie Nelson – Rovers Volunteer

Friday August 9th 2019

There will be a minute’s silence before tomorrow’s game v Clyde in memory of our friend and colleague Eddie Nelson, who passed away recently.

Eddie was a Rovers man and a lifelong supporter of the club, who supported the Rovers in a number of ways but will probably be best remembered for his work as a collector for Raith Lotto and as Gate Checker at the stadium; a position he held for 28 years.

His colleagues on the turnstiles said of him “Eddie never missed a match and was always the first Gate Checker to arrive. He was very reliable, dependable and trustworthy. He liked a bit of banter with those coming through his turnstile and got to know many faces over the years. He worked on the turnstiles for home reserve fixtures as well. He will be sadly missed by his gate checker colleagues”

His funeral will be held at Kirkcaldy Crematorium on Thursday 15 August at 11.45 am.

Our condolences go out to Eddie’s family and friends.

Rovers take on Kirkcaldy Union in the semi-final of the Kirkcaldy Junior Cup. Union were the lessees of Stark's Park at that time. The emotion of the fixture spilled over into the crowd and a pitched battle between rival fans ensued. Officials failed to clear the pitch of battling fans and so Councillor Stark took matters into his own hands and released a young bull from the byre at the North End of the ground and order was restored.
