Prostate Cancer Charity Cycle 2018

Lifelong Rovers fan Steven Craig has just taken part in the Prostate Cancer Charity Cycle, Football to Amsterdam 2018, raising awareness and money for the Prostate Cancer UK Charity.

Starting from the Velodrome at Olympic Park in London Steven cycled to Amsterdam over two days with another 250 people all representing their own clubs. Steven had put in quiet a bit of training before the event and was pleased to arrive at the Ajax Stadium in Amsterdam still feeling good.

Steven told the Raith website “I still had a bit left in the legs after two hard days of cycling but the backside was a bit tender” but it’s not enough to put him off as he hopes to take part again in the 2019 event.

Steven was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in 2015 and is now cleared thanks to the great NHS Fife team as well as the nurses from Prostate Cancer, and it was the level of support that Steven received from the Prostate Cancer nurses that prompted Steven to try and put something back into the Charity that helped him.

He told us “the event was a bit emotional for me as everyone taking part had been touched by Cancer in some way, but it was great to hear the stories of men who had come through the treatment and were now survivors, and all hoping to raise awareness and much needed funds for more research”.

One man dies in the UK every 45 minutes due to Prostate Cancer, but it can be cured if caught early enough and Steven hopes the publicity he receives from his cycle may just spur more men onto getting tested early for this killer disease.
