Stark’s Park, 20th March 2018

Raith Rovers 0 – 1 Alloa Athletic (Jordan OG, 28)

Title party on hold as Wasps are victorious

A decent crowd of approximately 150 assembled at Starks Park hopeful of seeing the U20’s hold off visitors Alloa to retain the league title, however their hard work and a wee bit of luck delays any celebration for another game.

The early exchanges of the game bore little fruit, Stevenson hitting an 18 yarder wide on two occasions and a Crosbie daisy cutter being the most memorable.

Rovers had enjoyed the better of the play but it was on the 28th minute that the visitors made the breakthrough.
A free kick for Alloa 25 yards out on the right was flighted into the centre of the box, Cunningham and Gregor Jordan rose together the latter unfortunate to see the ball glance of his head and past the stranded Brian 0-1

Minutes later came Rovers had a chance to draw level, Kyle Bell picking up a loose ball at the edge of the area and unleashing a goal bound rocket which was tipped over by Wylie in the visitor’s goal.

Alloa saw out the half edging possession, however Sinclair squandered a chance to double the lead with a free kick which landed high up in the South Stand.

With seconds on the clock at the restart Rovers Trialist shocked Wylie with a shot from distance which dipped narrowly over the bar, moments later at the other end, Cunningham struck from the corner of the 18-yard box forcing Brian into an acrobatic save to block the shot at the near post.

Brian released the ball upfield, the ball finding it’s way eventually to Kieran Dall free on the left of the area, his left footed strike going agonisingly past the back post.

Rovers kept up the pressure and after some pinball in the box, Watson hit a low ball which went inches past the keepers left post.

Next up was Jack Smith, his cross rebounding to Valentine whose ball into the box came off the legs of a defender and was goal bound but for the intervention of an Alloa teammate.

On 75 minutes Jack Smith went clear into the box his shot was half blocked by Wylie and was spinning goal-wards only for Daniel Moran to rush in and kick the ball into the main stand.

Despite the pressure, Alloa held on for the win, making Craig Easton’s side wait until the next match to hopefully lift the silverware for a second time.
