It was the end of an era on Saturday for RaithTV, as long-time volunteer Steven Ward filmed his last game for the club.

For the past six seasons, Steven has filmed and edited almost every home and away game, braving all sorts of weather along the way, making sure fans far and wide can follow the action on the pitch when they can’t be there in person. As well as match highlights, he’s also produced many other features such as mid-week interviews and promotional videos.

Over that time, his videos have been viewed over 800,000 times – an astonishing 4 million minutes viewed by Rovers fans across the globe.

Inevitably, his talents have not gone unnoticed by other clubs – and he now takes up a full-time roll at Celtic TV in Glasgow. Everyone at the club thanks him for his contribution during his time with the club, and wish him well in his new position.

At the game on Saturday, Steven was presented with a framed certificate recognising his efforts, signed by players, staff, volunteers and directors. The Development Squad also presented him with a signed shirt to thank him for his work with them.

Steven will continue to support the Rovers, but will now have to get used to sitting when he attends games in the future, and not worry if the camera was pointed at the goal when the ball hit the net.

With Steven moving on, this does mean that RaithTV are now on the look out for new members to join the team. In particular, people to help with filming and editing.

Over the past few years, the team have built up a great reputation – both within the club, and beyond. Many fans from other clubs have complimented the output, and the team are keen to see the service continue to improve in the years to come. The service provides a vital link for fans that can’t be at every game, or live outside the country and watch the game live on match days.

The team would love to produce more content, but lack of time and people is the main constraint. The more people we can get involved, the more we can do. It’s a fun project to be part of – you not only get to work with the players and management, but your work will also get viewed by thousands of people around the world.

If you (or anyone you know) have any media skills (not necessarily any formal qualifications) please email Niall Russell via media@raithrovers.net to discuss. We’d love to hear from you.
