Development League East

Raith Rovers u20’s 2 (Smith 17, Court 66)– 0 Berwick Rangers u20’s

Young Rovers extend the lead at the top of the league by four points. Both sides started at a lively pace, each taking knocks in the process, Court was first to go to ground but recovered quickly, not so Grant Rose who went into the gravel at the railway side and had to retire, we wish him well.

Smith was first to shoot on goal, his 35-yard free kick drifting wide of goal, then Lavery, out jumping the defence to head just over from 6 yards.

Both sides looked pacey and likely to threaten but both defences showed that they were tough to break down, the Rovers just edging possession.
The opening goal came from a recycled corner the ball taking a couple of deflections before Jack Smith whipped the ball into the net from 6 yards, 1 – 0

Rovers enjoyed a lift from taking the lead, Dall shooting just over and Osei going wide from the edge of the area.
Berwick replied with a shot from the corner of the box from Heath which took a deflection of Dall for a corner from which Brian was quick to run out and claim the ball.
Minutes later, what seemed a coming together in the box was punished by the referee with a penalty to Berwick.

Lavery stepped up and hit the ball low to his right but Rory Brian had it covered all the way, it came of his outstretched arms and was booted clear by MacDonald.
Rory wasn’t finished there, moments later he was on his knees to clear a near post shot, then from the corner he was out to punch clear, the boy has some right hook.
It was the Rory story again in the second half with a trio of saves from Thomson, the Aussie keeper never putting a foot wrong.
Dall and Court had half chances saved by Brennan, but Osei saw the Berwick keeper just off his line and fired the ball in from 40 yards, both he and Brennan watched the ball go wide of the keeper’s left post.

From the goal kick the ball came back to Yaw who split the defence with a diagonal pass to Johnny Court, he outpaced his marker to rocket the ball past the diving Brennan to double the lead, 2 – 0
Berwick refused to go on the back foot and both sides kept battling for the rest of the game, although it had no impact on the outcome, McLeod Kay was left rueing his chance to get on the score sheet with just the keeper to beat he fired narrowly wide from the edge of the box.

The team was applauded down the tunnel by an appreciative crowd who were entertained for the entire 90 minutes.

The Rovers now go 12 league games unbeaten, counting results from the previous season.
