We are delighted to announce the signing of Slovakian goalkeeper Pavol Penksa (31) initially until the end of this season. The 6ft 4in stopper is eligible to play in this evening’s Ladbrokes Championship fixture at home to St Mirren.

In an incredible turn of events, Pavol was scheduled to travel from Slovakia to Scotland on Sunday morning… that was until his passport and other documents were stolen at Bratislava Airport just before he was due to fly. Such was our new keeper’s determination to get here that he managed to obtain emergency documentation on Monday morning before then having to travel via Vienna and Brussels, at his own expense, to get here as quickly as possible!

However, after meeting with the squad yesterday and participating in full training sessions, the fluent English speaking keeper is in line to make his debut in a few hours time.

Pavol’s career has seen him play for several clubs in both the Czech Republic and Slovakia, latterly with FC Tatran Presov in Slovakia’s top league.

Welcome to Stark’s Park, big fella!

And typically, after waiting ages for a keeper, two come along at once!

We are also delighted to confirm that international clearance has now been received for us to register Development League squad goalkeeper Rory Brian as an amateur. Under FIFA Regulations we were unable to register Australian Rory during the January transfer window as he only turned 18 last month, and accordingly he is unfortunately currently ineligible for first team action. However he can continue to feature in our Under 20 team which is flying high in the Development League East.

Finally, all three other registered goalies remain injured. Kevin Cuthbert is out for at least 4-6 weeks with groin problems, Aaron Lennox is out for at least a further 6 weeks following his hand and jaw injuries, and Conor Brennan is also expected to be out for up to 4 weeks following foot ligament damage sustained at Dumfries 10 days ago.
