Subject to FIFA international clearance, Raith Rovers have this afternoon agreed a one year deal with towering 6ft 4in French defender, Jean-Yves M’Voto Owono (27).

Having originally been on the books of Paris Saint-Germain until the age of 20, Jean-Yves most recently starred  for Polish second tier side WKS Zawisza Bydgoszcz SA, since he joined them in January 2016 following a brief loan spell with English League 2 side Leyton Orient.

Manager Gary Locke has tracked the player’s progress for some time, having previously watched him several times when he appeared regularly for League 1 sides Oldham Athletic, Barnsley and Southend United between 2009 and 2015 scoring 11 goals in 167 matches.

The gaffer is delighted to finally be able to bring ‘the big fella’ in, and while he is behind the rest of the squad in terms of full match fitness at the moment, having completed only two sessions, Jean-Yves may well feature as a trialist at some point during tomorrow’s pre season friendly match away to Arbroath (kick off 2pm).

Assuming international clearance is confirmed, Jean-Yves will assume the number 5 jersey recently vacated by Lewis Toshney.

Meanwhile, the management team remain active on several fronts and all being well further signings are expected next week.
