Raith Rovers fans are going to have the biggest say yet in who goes into the club’s Hall of Fame this year.

The organisers of the 2015 show – which is already sold out – are opening up the nominations process to all supporters..

Although the Hall of Fame show is still some way off – it is on November 9 at the Adam Smith Theatre – the organising committee of Ally Gourlay, Willie MacGregor, Allan Crow and Alistair Cameron is busy working behind the scenes on the nomination process.

In previous years, they have created shortlists for fans to vote for players through the decades.

This year, for the fourth annual event, the doors are being opened to all nominees for induction.

A special email address has been set up and the 2015 search will feature in the Fife Free Press and our website www.fifetoday.co.uk plus Raith’s website and match day programme, plus all social media pages, giving it the widest possible audience.

Ally explained: “We wanted to do something a bit different this year. For the first two years, I came up with a list of potential nominees from different decades, and then last year the entire Coca-Cola Cup squad was inducted as a whole, so for 2015 we thought we’d open it up and let the public decide.”

Ally says that previous inductees, or, to be more precise, those who haven’t been inducted, have always stimulated fierce debate! “I’ve had people say to me, ‘what about such and such, why wasn’t so and so inducted? That sort of thing is great and entirely valid, but obviously we can’t just induct everyone at once, so now we can say if there’s anyone you think we’ve missed out, now’s your chance to pick them.”

The committee members themselves have an idea of who they would like to nominate but Ally says they are keep those names under wraps. “I think we’ll nominate two names ourselves, then leave the rest to the public. I don’t want to say who they are because we don’t want to influence anyone. Of course, the vast majority may all come up with those names anyway and people can also vote for any of the Coca-Cola winning cup team too as individuals. I’m looking forward to seeing what the Rovers fans come up with. It’s a way of freshening things up for this year. I think It’s going to be interesting.”

To get involved, simply email your nomination to rrfchalloffame@gmail.com – with any supporting statements you wish to make – or you can write to Ally directly at Stark’s Park.

All nominees will be considered by the committee, which will then come up with the final list of inductees.
