Last week we announced that Turnbull Hutton had decided to stand down as Club Chairman and Director before the end of the year. That time has now come and Turnbull chaired his last meeting earlier this week. The board of directors would once again like to place on record its sincere thanks for his years of leadership and his invaluable contribution during that period especially to Raith Rovers, but also to the direction of Scottish football. Turnbull’s retirement will be marked in a suitable manner in due course.
We also indicated that new director appointments would be made at this time, and we are very pleased to confirm that internationally renowned author Val McDermid and John Sim, CEO of PKF International, have accepted invitations to join the RRFC board.
Val McDermid is, of course, a best selling crime author of international repute. She has welcomed the opportunity to further strengthen her already significant ties with the team she has supported all her days. Now based in Edinburgh, Kirkcaldy born Val is currently our main shirt sponsor while she also sponsors our Away Stand, named in honour of her father who was the scout who brought the legendary Jim Baxter to Stark’s Park. Val’s high profile is sure to continue to be an asset to the club going forward, but it is also her undoubted business acumen that makes her an extremely valuable addition to the board.
John Sim, also Kirkcaldy born, is currently Global CEO at PKF International, the global network of legally independent accountancy firms having previously held senior roles within KPMG. Operating out of Thailand, John travels extensively in his present role but still is able to take in several matches each season. He played a key role in the change of ownership which occurred at the club 9 years ago and is both a significant shareholder in our holding company and majority shareholder in the company which owns Stark’s Park.
Val and John will join existing directors, Mario Caira (Vice Chairman), Eric Drysdale (Chief Executive), Alan Young, Tom Phillips, Tom Morgan and David Wann at the board’s next meeting, within the next few weeks.
These appointments further strengthen the club’s board of directors, and we are certain that both Val and John will make significant and valued contributions going forward.
Further announcements will be made in due course as regards the appointment of a new Chairman, but in the meantime it’s very much business as usual as we gear up for the visit of local rivals Cowdenbeath on Saturday.
