It is with great regret that Raith Rovers FC announces that manager Grant Murray’s right hand man Paul Smith has decided to step down from his position as Assistant Manager. Today’s match against Cowdenbeath will be his last in the dugout.

Paul explains, “The move to being a completely full time operation is undoubtedly the correct path for this club. However it has meant that, in my part time role, some weeks I can go from Saturday to Saturday without seeing the first team players. My personal view is that I cannot therefore make as full a contribution to the team as I would like to. It has been a very difficult decision for me to make, but I know that it’s the right one for the football club and the right one for myself. I would like to take this opportunity to wish the Rovers all the best for the future. That goes for everyone at the club. Grant, Laurie, the coaching staff and the backroom team have all been great to work with, and I’d also like to thank everyone behind the scenes at the club, the office staff, the ground staff for their unswerving support and hard work which goes unnoticed a lot of the time. I’d also like to thank the board of directors for their hard work and support to myself and the management team. Finally, to our loyal fans, I would say thanks for your support. We’ve had some great times together and it is vital that you continue with that great vocal encouragement to support the players and management in what promises to be a highly competitive Championship.”

Meanwhile, in other news, Raith Rovers Academy Director Hugh McCann has also decided to resign rather than transfer to a role within the new Fife Elite Regional Academy.

Both Paul and Hugh leave with our best wishes for the future.
