Rovers Swoop To Bring Back ‘Bairdy’

Thursday January 30th 2014

Raith Rovers are pleased to announce that former favourite John Baird has signed a short term deal bringing him back to Stark’s Park for the remainder of this season.

Bairdy was released earlier this week by Premiership side Partick Thistle, and manager Grant Murray has moved swiftly to secure the popular striker’s signature in the face of stiff competition from other Championship sides. His signing gives the gaffer an additional option up front and so there will be stiff competition among all our forwards for a place in the team. John is confident he can score goals for us, and certainly his 26 goal tally in his previous 2 seasons with the club (2010 – 2012) is testament to his ability.

John will be available for selection on Saturday when we face Cowdenbeath away in a vital Championship fixture.

Bob Paxton is left with virtually the casting vote at the Scottish League AGM to reduce the top league from 12 teams to 10. Bob was left in the unenviable position that he should vote in concert with his colleagues on the League Management Committee knowing that a reduced top tier would make it an almost impossible task for newly promoted Rovers to stay in the top flight.
